Choosen design changing layout of film poster

This is the chosen design of my final film poster, i chose this design as i like the main image and i believe the text and the background all work well here and creates a bright and interesting movie poster which would spark my audiences interest in the film.

After creating the many different design ideas which i had for my movie magazine, i finally decided on the above design. The reasons for this where; that i believed the photograph worked better in these designs than some of the others did. After deciding to use this design, i then created more designs based on my chosen design. Experimenting by moving the picture, title and text around the page.

Pictures for film Poster

These are the pictures which i took for my film poster. When deciding to take the pictures i used the knowledge which i had obtained from researching different movie posters and their typical conventions. For example, i discovered that most movie posters for action films tend to have an image of the action figure and the films main hero dominating most of the poster. Therefore, when taking my pictures i tried to input these ideas to create an image which would typically be seen on the front of an action movie poster. I therefore got the prop of a machine gun, for my main character to pose with to symbolise to the audience that the main character is involved in the military and has weapons whilst also reinforcing the genre of my film which is action. Whilst taking these pictures i tried to take on a firm and dominant stance in order to convey my character as being a dominant hero who is prepared to fight but not back down.



This photograph was never used. Although i liked this photogrpah as it gave the effect that the barrell of the weapon was pointing directly towards the audience of the film poster, i decided against using this as too much of the face of my films hero was hidden away.
















This photograph i used in both my movie poster and my magazine front cover. I decided to create this image in both designs as i wanted to see the effect which it would have and decide which of my texts i believe it would look better on. In the end i decided to use this image on my movie poster as i believe it shows my films hero looking directly out towards the audience whilst also carrying the machine gun weapon to indicate to the audience the genre of the film.











This image again wasnt used in either of my two ancilliary texts. Although i liked this image, i felt there were more images that looked better and so decided to use these images instead, although i do believe this image would have worked just as well.












This image was again not used. When taking the photographs i decided to experiment with the lighting to try and create shadows annd also to try and cast a glow over my character in order to get the image to stand out on the film poster. However when trying the designs for my poster with the different pictures i decided against this image as i believe the image was too bright.












Finally, this image was not used for a few reasons; when i initially had this idea and after drawing up some draft designs, I thought it would look quite good on the page. However when i properly added the image it didnt have the effect which i wanted. Also in the production stages, I decided that I wanted my films main hero to be facing the audience.

Possible Film Poster Creations

These are some designs which i have created using varying images and styles, changing the layout in order for me to discover which of the magazines works the best and which of my ideas could be changed and altered and ideas from other designs inputted into my final design in order for me to create the best possible film poster.

In this idea i wanted to show the heroic Johnson on one side of the image and show the assassin standing on the other with both of them staring directly at each other to highlight the confrontation between the hero and protagonist.




In this design i wanted the weapon to appear as if it is coming out of the film poster and pointing directly at the audience giving my image a 3d effect whilst involving the audience with the main image and my poster and having the effect of interesting them in my poster.








In this image i wanted to show my character as being calm and relaxed to highlight his fearless and tough guy image to my audience.













In this image i wanted to show someone looking down the scope of a rifle at my main character to bring to the attention of the audience the danger element that somebody is trying to kill the main character which also provides them with an insight into the films narrative.

Possible Front Covers

Below, are a range of different magazine front cover layout idea's which i produced. I produced many different front covers as i wanted to see them after they had been produced because only then could i get an idea as to what worked and appeared better. Therefore i entered the creative production process and began swapping and changing things in each of my designs before coming up with a select few designs which i then asked a select number of people which design appealed to them the most, from which i picked and created my final design.




This design although one of my favourites due to the lighting effect on the main image which created a heroic glow making my characters features stand out, i couldnt use as it created shadows which blocked out some of the text in my magazine.




















I couldnt use this image for the reason as stated above.
















This was another image which i liked however the image of the gun was blocked out by the text and this therefore didnt have the effect i was hoping it would have had.


















In this design i gave my magazine a white background at the top so that the title of my magazine would stand out clearer.


















Using the same feature of the white background behind my magazines title i also altered the main image on my magazine.


















This is the same design as above however without the white background behind the magazine title. I feel the image, although i feel it is a good and effective image, didnt work on the front cover of my magazine and it almost looked as if it didnt fit and was taking over the full front cover.





















This is the design which i ended up chosing due to the audience feedback which said the main image suggested a lot to the audience and the background and overall image of the magazine front cover was attractive and appealing.

















This is the same design as above however i again replaced the white background behind the title of my magazine to see if it made it look better, however in the end i made the decision that the background looked out of place and so decided to opt against it.

These are on the same basis and using the same image as seen above, however i changed the background to an alternative image which i also liked to see which of them worked best - i decided to go for the above backgrounds as i felt they looked more sinister and threatening and where more attractive and interesting for the audience.


















Here i tried a different image on the alternative background.

Pics for Magazine

These images are also some of the images which i decided to try and use for my movie poster too. However after experimenting by putting the different pictures into my designs i decided that some didnt have the effect of what i wanted.

This is the image which i choose to use for my film magazine.

Magazine front cover 1st draft

This was my initial draft which i had produced on the computer, i felt that the overall appearance of this cover didnt have the effect which i had been aiming for and decided to start on the production again. However i did like the idea of the piece of film running across the bottom of the magazine containing screen shots and images of things that are going to be featured in this issue of the magazine as i felt it challenged the typical way of writing the alternative features and also by showing the other features contained in the magazine in pictures it stands out more to the audience who can see recognisable images straight away which can encourage them to purchase the magazine, however in the end i couldnt use this idea as it covered up too much of my magazines main image and took the audiences attraction away from it.

This is the draft which i have chosen to produce, however when it came to the production stages i wasnt able to have the technical software available to me to allow me to produce this magazine cover.
